Recently, after a long break of 1.5 years, we had an official state and national level tournament. It was being held online for the first time and there were a couple of issues to be addressed so that the tournament could be played fairly, with no glitches. With the best of their knowledge, the official authorities came up with a system that could ensure the fulfillment of all the concerns. Despite doing all of this while they worked day and night, the tournament saw highly unexpected results. Why you ask? Some players took help from other sources. While we think that online tournament saves traveling time & expenses of all kinds, there are some very important cons of the same. The main point being the internet connection. The same kind of issues also took place in the FIDE Online Olympiad 2020, where few teams faced major difficulties, the same tournament where the Indian team created history by winning the first-ever gold medal. Coming back to the topic, we all know that the pandemic has left us with no alternative option of conducting events offline and so, we need to adapt to the online system. All we can do is play fairly from our side. Stay true to yourself and work hard.
