In these tough times, it is very important for us to take part in social initiatives, come forward and offer our help to the needy. On 13th June 2021, India’s largest chess fundraising event took place where the Former Multiple times World Champion GM Viswanathan Anand played simuls with important figures from Bollywood, Sports, Music & Entrepreneurship. It was a noble initiative by the All India Chess Federation (AICF) and Chesscom India to support Akshaya Patra NGO for children’s food and education. The simuls were played in two batches. Riteish Deshmukh, Sajid Nadiadwala, Nikhil Kamath, Sudeep Kichcha & Yuzvendra Chahal played in the first batch and Amir Khan, Arijit Singh, Ananya Birla & Manu Kumar Jain played in the second batch. It was hosted by IM Tania Sachdev, IM Rakesh Kulkarni, the famous comedian & chess promoter Samay Raina and Prachura while they raised about 10 lakh rupees through the event. This was a huge step by the Chess Community of India. The AICF has also launched the Checkmate Covid Initiative to combat COVID-19. You can find more about it on its official website. We can also initiate or become a part of such initiatives, whether they are small-scale or large-scale. Ultimately, “boond boond se saagar bharta hai” (Many a little makes a mickle).
