This summer, I had the pleasure of interning at Jivdaya, an NGO that tirelessly works for the street animals and birds in need. Honestly, I was a bit reluctant to intern here at first as I was trying to find my way through my university's ‘intern at an NGO’ mandate but I have to admit that Jivdaya changed my approach. We have all seen the numerous videos that show how the poor animals are suffering for what we humans do in our arrogance. Jivdaya is one such organization that is doing its part in correcting the wrong. Getting comfortable with being surrounded by all the animals and birds at all times, took its own sweet time but also taught me a lot in the process. One does not always need to love animals or birds, just being human enough or empathetic towards them can do wonders. I interned at the various departments they have—The bird registration desk, the pigeon department, the outpatient department, and the call center among others. In my 150 hours of internship, I noticed how friendly and supportive the staff was, not only to one another but also to whoever was in need. Jivdaya boasts of over 150 species of birds with all the campus amenities for their comfortable stay while being treated. It was a one-of-a-kind experience for me and I hope that many others also get to experience the same. One can also check them out for adoption purposes. They conduct a lot of workshops too. It’s not very often that we can get a change to work for the birds ,why not use each and every opportunity to do a good deed. Let’s take a step away from humans’ materialistic needs.
